HALFWAY TO PARADISE
Truckies drive across the country and see a constantly changing landscape unfold in front of them, they travel the length and width of the country, and they witness breathtakingly remote corners of the country that many of us will never see. There is a contrasting side of the industry, however, where these men and women are pushed to their limits and exposed to increased health risks, both physical and emotional.
Taken on an almost nonstop 5,300km return journey over 4.5 days from Adelaide to Perth, these scenes extend beyond the idyllic prettiness of the pastoral. My aim was to embrace the charm and grit of the real world of truck driving.
This body of work serves as an introduction to further journeys, and as such, has not been cut down to a smaller series of images as done with my previous work. My intention is to let this project take its own shape. - Hailey Lane, 2013
