Like a leopard skin print or a swathe of crimson polyester, photographs envelop reality in a lush topography of illusion. Each surface a camera describes, vanishes before our eyes in a feat of technological conjuring, leaving only the glimmering veneer of the photographic image. In these photographs, the previous occupants have left their boudoirs. Small fragments, a few loose hairs, flecks of skin, or a patch of drool are all that remains of the dogs who are being judged in the arena of the competition hall.
