Miles Standish is a Melbourne based photographer. Miles was given his first camera of his own, a Kodak Instamatic, at age 7 and by the age of 10 was developing his own B&W films and printing onto printing-out-paper, at 14 he bought his first SLR.

In 1984 at the age of 20 Miles studied at the Prahran College in Melbourne. "This was the art school where many great Australian photographers studied (Bill Henson, Carol Jerrems, Chris Koller, Polly Borland, Peter Milne, Leah King-Smith)." Miles left the course mid-way through and within a few years was no longer practicing photography.

In 2006 he bought a digital SLR to photograph his son, resumed photography and again became absorbed by it. Miles continues to take strikingly sensitive portraits and in early 2014 we will be sharing a selection of his recent photographs here on the Excerpt blog.

I wanted to introduce Miles' work here with these photos taken from when he was 15 (the 1978 photos) through to when he was 23.
